Graveside Histories: The Academy at Laurel Hill

This event is no longer on sale.

Sunday October 6

1:00 PM  –  3:00 PM

Discover the history of the Academy outside of the Academy! Join us at Laurel Hill Cemetery East for a member-only guided tour of gravesites belonging to those who helped shape the institution. Learn about the life of Adam Seybert, the first American mineralogist, whose mineral collection started the Academy. Cherish the legacies of other Academy members and scientists, such as Elisha Kent Kane, a famous arctic explorer, and John Cassin, an ornithologist and curator for 30 years.

Led by Laurel Hill guides, Joe Lex, PhD, and Tom Keels, this tour was researched and designed specifically for our members who will surely be fascinated by the stories of these incredible lives.

This walking tour will meet at the East main gate and last about two hours. Please wear comfortable shoes, as the tour may find its way over uneven terrain.

This is a members-only program. Please sign in to register for this program.
